FAULT - Sliding door not fully closed

This is a fault diagnosis blog entry for my IVECO Daily Mk3 35S12 2.3 XLWB.
I present them in a set way so that f you have the same symptom you can find my fix for that problem.
It is formatted in three sections Fault Symptom, Fault Invest Fault Fix. This will give you the freedom to read through or pick out the info you need more easily.
Remember: there is no one one answer to each problem (well not often) so although this might have fixed my problem, that isn't to say it will fix yours. Also I am no subject matter expert so I may not know a system to the highest detail.

Fault Symptom

The sliding door is not fully closed.

Fault Invest

A bit of looking at the van and a bit of looking  online.

Fault Fix

So far I haven't fixed this issue but here is what I know.

  1. Fully service the sliding door. Remove all crap from runners and cavities of the sliding door mechanisms (top middle and bottom). These need inspecting for damage (the rollers especially are prone to wear and failure) and then lightly greasing with general purpose grease XG293 or similar.
  2. Rig the door. the bottom and top arms can be adjusted along with the alignment socket at the front frame of the door. The closer you pull in one arm, the more it will kick out the other as it pivots round the middle runner.
THis is a bit of an art and if its not working as you would like, aim to have the front edge and top edge as close to flush as you can get them at the expense of the lower and aft edges as this will be best for driving and falling rain.
  3. Add a gutter. If the above hasn't fixed your door, welcome to the club. The doors and even the chassis themselves can bend on these over stressed Italian POS vans. Adding a gutter above the door will help stop rain from running into the sliding door. You will find this on a lot of these vans, just remember not to mount it completely flat so it can drain. These can be found at camper van builders and on ebay.
  4. Add more P seals. This isn't a bad idea regardless as it helps keep cold and noises out. I had added a stick on P seal all around the door with a blob of silica set on either end to prevent them from lifting. Adding a bit of vaseline to the surface of the seal will help prevent it from sticking to the frame if its closed for a long time.
  5. Bend the door back to shape. Not something I have tried yet but you can bend the door back to shape with a bit of weight (like two people) on the door whilst its laid flat over a mandril of some sorts. Only for the brave and be careful of your window.
