More load area fun

Image
fig1 More time away had brought up more short comings and questions about the lad area of my van. Time to look into improving these points. 1806 Q rails/track Continuing my fun in the load area of the van I had yet again decided to try and tackle the question of "what exactly are those load rails in the back of my van?" I have seen them a few times before but it is not a rail system I could name. Searching for the GBF brand stamped on them drew up a blank too. It wasn't till a while later that another attempt brough up that they are sometimes called "Q rails" and a bit more hunting brought up the "1806 Q rail" designation I now recognise them as. There isn't nearly as much stuff out there for them as the Unwin rails but I have also seen the same parts listed as just for "load rails" so there might be more out there but the naming makes them hard to search for. I have since found tie down points in 1200kg and 2000kg weight ratings as well

Sliding doors

The Iveco daily III sliding door is designed to not close properly and generally look crap. It is worth acknowledging that this has taken effort to make something this bad and we should all be grateful that it gives us the opportunity to waste hours trying to rig it properly. fig1 I have spent hours on and off faffing with the sliding door. I was clearly not the first as the van came with a new door latch, a couple of pin cavities and a gutter had been fit above the door.  The gutter is a great work around for a leaky door regardless of fit. A fair bit can be achieved with the rigging available in the door which I will give a quick overview of here. The door adjustments available are as follows: Forward upper arm  - extend retract via pinch bolt. Forward lower arm  - raise/lower front edge via 3x mounting bolts and a small amount of adjustment via 2x arm attachment cap head bolts. Forward pin cavities  - move to accept door pins by loosening 2x bolts. Aft latch pin upper - loosen pin

Fault - Boiler light flashing whenever power is on Propex Malega 5E

This is a fault diagnosis blog entry for my IVECO Daily Mk3 35S12 2.3 XLWB. I present them in a set way so that f you have the same symptom you can find my fix for that problem.  It is formatted in three sections  Fault Symptom, Fault Invest  &  Fault Fix.  This will give you the freedom to read through or pick out the info you need more easily. Remember: there is no one one answer to each problem (well not often) so although this might have fixed my problem, that isn't to say it will fix yours. Also I am no subject matter expert so I may not know a system to the highest detail.  Fault Symptom whenever 12v power is supplied to the cabin, the LED status light for the Propex Malega 5E water heater flashes constantly. Fault Invest The flashing is a fault code. As it flashes twice it is telling me there is no pilot lite for the gas boiler. This would make sense as the gas is nearly always off but this is regardless of the boilers switch position even when selected off.  The boile

Fault Invest The fact that there was no smell told me it wasn't a gre water issue and I hadn't use the toilet so black water was out too. As such I either had a l

Remove all crap from runners and cavities of the sliding door mechanisms (top middle and bottom). These need inspecting for damage (the rollers especially are p

On rails

There are four tie down points in the load area of the van at the middle and aft corners. This is insufficient to safely strap down two motorcycles, its barely sufficient for one, so I was in need of more tie down points. Taking a leaf out of my previous Transporter build  I decided to stick in some Unwin rails. These have the benefit of offering multi position tie down points only limited in number, location and load by the position and length of the rail. I opted for surface rails this time as they are easier to fit and would not get in the way where I wanted to stick them as much as they would in other areas of the van.  I already have a number of 500kg and 125kg tie down rings to drop in them so that was one less thing to think about. I had an ide where I wanted them but I was sure to check underneath the van to ensure this wouldn't fowl anything. Two short rails were purchased, offered up to where I wanted them mounted and cut to length. These could then have their mounting bo

FAULT - Speedo not working for first few miles

Speedo may initially work, may not, either way it intermittently drops out and comes back or may be off for long periods. During this time cruise control does work but will be canceled whenever the speedo turns on or off. If the speedo is off for a long period, it is often joined by an injector warning light. The clock
